I got this for Christmas...

and it's pretty much my favorite thing ever. It's even more beautiful and nifty in person, although quite slippery — so much so, in fact, that I'm sure I'm going to drop my phone repeatedly, thereby negating the safety of having a case in the first place.

But it's so puuuurdy I don't even care.

Sheaff: Ephemera

I can't even begin to describe the wonders and delights to be found here, so I'll just show you some.

Martha Makes Cookies, Me Happy

It's no secret that I adore Martha Stewart and everything she touches.

When I first heard that she had a cookie app, I was elated — until I found out it was only for the iPad (which is about the only Apple product I don't own). Then today, after a few weeks of considering spending $600 on a device exclusively for the cookie app, the Great One announces a version for iPhone and I downloaded it before I was even fully awake.

It's more than worth the $2.99 in beauty alone — it's really by far the best, sexiest looking app in all of the land.  I mean, look at those cookies.

Because I've been busy — and more realistically because I've been lazy — here is my last minute Blue Carrot Shop gift-guide for all of my fellow lazies out there. I'll do whatever I can to get your packages to you by Christmas, and as always if you'd like it gift-wrapped (oh the time I'll save you!) just let me know.

Now, you've procrastinated long enough — shop away!

Are you one of those weirdo - ahem - I mean, traditionalists who put up your tree on Christmas eve? Waste no time with this vintage, Ezee-Up tree stand and spend more time celebrating than yelling at each other ("Tilt the tree to the left, Mark. THE LEFT! THE LEEEEFFFFT!" Was this just my family?).

Who doesn't love coffee? Or plaid?

You can never start too early practicing your favorite drink recipes for New Year's.

Nothing is better than tea on a freezing winter day. EXCEPT maybe a super cool way to store your tea.

Poodles! Ruffles! On a Tea Towel! Wait, why am I selling this?

This Little Red Riding Hood plate is so adorable I can't even comment.

For the co-worker who has everything? I guarantee they don't have a brass snail. Or two brass snails.

Everyone needs a (this) squirrel puzzle, right?

Need a last minute gift for your friend Henry? Your aunt Heloise?

The nerdy kid in me would have luuurved to shake a few packs of these rad animal stamps out of my stocking. Um, so would the nerdy adult me.

This vintage action puppet Circus book will definitely be the hit of your gift swaps.

I'm not sure what Cabin Tea is, but I do adore the tin it came in.

Ok, so it's like -5 degrees here today, but dream with me, will ya?

It's penguins! On an ice bucket!

Make someone's co-workers very jealous of this beautiful (and shiny!) letterpress block — heavy enough for a paper weight.

Just in time for Christmas Eve, re-enact the Polar Express, or just add a festive jingle jangle to your gifts or doors.

Find these gifts and MORE (I know, more you say? You're welcome!) at Blue Carrot Shop!

Wintertimey Things

Last night the man and I took his mother to see the Vienna Boys Choir, which was equal parts beautiful, funny and a little creepy. I mean, there was lederhosen involved.

ANYway, Severance Hall was all decked out and it put me in the Christmas mood, if only until I got home and realized that due to some remodeling, this may be the first time in my 25 years on earth that I don't get to decorate a Christmas tree.

Aaand there's my GWUMPY FACE again.

A co-worker of mine asked me if I knew where he could buy his girlfriend an apron, and I immediately thought of these beauties I had seen at Anthropologie. Aren't they delightful? I feel like they're even a bit too pretty to use, I mean, they're nicer than most of my clothes.

Melanie MacDonald

Melanie e-mailed me to let me know she loved the shop (THANK YOU!), and included a link to her site which is full of these AMAZING paintings, with subjects that are very close to my vintage-loving, salt-n-pepper-shaker-collecting heart.

I actually have a few of these darling little ceramic whales sitting on my desk right now...

Edward Hopper, House by the Railroad. 1925.

Me: Hey, can we have this house?
Man: MMMmmmHmmm. Only if I can put a laboratory on the top.
Me: There is obviously one already there, obviously.

It's beginning to look a lot like OMG I'M SO GLAD WE BOUGHT A JEEP.

Blue Carrot Gift Guide: MOM

Because it's Chritsmastime and people love to buy the things, and I run a shop that sells the things, I thought it only made sense to do a gift guide for all you lazy shoppers who crave a Blue Carrot Christmas for your Moms, Dads, Friends and the like.

So go ahead, and buy all of these things. And don't forget that I'll gift wrap your items FOR FREE on orders of $25 or more (just ask).

Every kitchen needs a vintage scale — not only do I endorse them, but I happen to have one in my kitchen as well.

Type drawers have tons of teeny tiny compartments to hold all of your teeny tiny treasures.

Glove forms look awesome on their own, but also work wonderfully as jewelry holders.

Always know exactly which snack is running low with these colorful stacking bowls.

Organize your recipes in style with this delightful carved wooden box.

Functional AND beautiful, every kitchen needs a set of colorful Pyrex.

Is your mom's name Barb? Does she like bowling? I mean.

My mom collects these, and so should yours.

Is your mom's name Rhonda? Yeah, I have a gift for that.

Bring back the art of note-writing in style.

Vera Bradley who? Carrying this vintage Pan Am bag will instantly make your mom the coolest.
